Gordon Mackay, M. Arch, ARIDO, NCIDQ
Partner

When Gordon was first drawn to the notion of architecture, he was in the midst of pursuing a Fine Arts degree at Mt. Allison University. An early passion and talent for drawing, sculpture and photography pushed him towards the visual arts where he thrived on the idea of shaping the medium into the message. Public art and narrative sculpture engaged Gordon's imagination, and when he discovered the work of New York's architectural group SITE and James Wines' subsequent treatise DE-ARCHITECTURE, his course was immediately altered. Throughout his architectural education and career, Gordon has been most influenced by artists and architects that ignore traditional disciplinary boundaries: Melvin Charney, Gordon Matta-Clark, Frank Gehry, and Richard Serra.
Gordon founded Mackay Wong Strategic Design with Ron Wong in 1992 soon after graduating from the Technical University of Nova Scotia with Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies and a Masters of Architecture Degree. He has been instrumental in developing the firms philosophical approach to crafting engaging public experiences which communicate the values and essence of a brand.
Gordon enjoys lecturing, writing and has served on a number of volunteer boards including the Board of Directors for Camp Oochigeas.
