Ron Wong began his education in engineering, thinking that this professional direction would fulfill his appetite; however once he learned that his interests lie in a more creative discipline, he moved to study architecture where he was much more entertained with its history, heroes and design solutions. Learning and understanding how people socialize, react and inhabit space has been at the core of his interests. Growing up in the Canadian prairies, having lived in places from the Caribbean to Sweden and traveling extensively, Ron has developed a wealth of references and experiences that contribute to the insight and passion he brings to every design exercise. After bumping into Gordon Mackay at a football game, the two aligned to focus on the hospitality industry, designing restaurants for a savvy restaurateur. Together, they developed a specialized skill set that allowed them to venture into a business for themselves by understanding the nature of the industry as it relates to design. Eighteen years later, they have nurtured their practice into an informed problem-solving design studio for many hospitality clients both here in Canada and worldwide. Whether it's culturally significant, material-based or environmentally memorable, Ron's design expertise and experience has informed the variety of Mackay|Wong's solutions and projects. Ron hopes to bring this passion to many more hotel and resort hospitality projects that lay ahead for the company.
